With retirement imminent for me, I was struggling to verify my thoughts and processes for a suitable replacement for me. My employer had suggested a timeline for this determination and I did have a ‘candidate’ but what if I was wrong? And how could I be sure that my view on this was what was actually best for the role and the organisation?
We had utilised David’s services in an earlier role review and found the results quite informative and helpful in our final decision so we engaged him to have a look at both who I was proposing, and how I was looking at the replacement role.
David’s craft (it IS a craft) and knowledge guided both myself and the candidate through an extremely enlightening process which focused on ‘looking in’ at who we both are and how both these people ‘fitted’ into the role.
The outcome is an amazing program of development which has resulted in a radical (and I mean RADICAL) change to the candidates view of herself, the role and the world around her. As a result of this, both of us are far more comfortable with the succession plan and I feel strongly that my role is going to be enhanced well into the future.
I know that my choice of replacement is going to have the best possible chance at success – not only in this role but for her future as well and all thanks to a wise person with a wonderful process.
